Position Overview:

 

The Environmental Coordinator is responsible for managing and supporting environmental compliance, permitting, monitoring, and sustainability initiatives across onshore and offshore operations. This role ensures that all activities adhere to federal, state, and local, as well as offshore regulatory frameworks such as BOEM, CWA, and MARPOL. The coordinator plays a key role in aligning project activities with ISO 14001 standards and Hanwha Offshores goals, promoting responsible environmental stewardship and continual improvement.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) & Permitting
  • Lead or support the EIA process for offshore and onshore projects, ensuring potential environmental and social impacts are identified, assessed, and mitigated.
  • Ensure full regulatory compliance with permitting requirements (BOEM, LexisNexis, local and federal agencies).
  • Develop and implement Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), focusing on waste minimization and pollution prevention.
  • Leading Monitoring, Reporting & Compliance activities
  • Design and manage environmental monitoring programs, including data collection, analysis, and submission to stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure compliance with EPA regulations, including Oil and Gas Extraction Effluent Guidelines and Standards, and offshore environmental reporting
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive reports including incident reports, annual environmental performance reports, and regulatory deliverables.
  • Identify and proactively manage environmental risks and opportunities across the project lifecycle.
  • Lead and proactively engage in Environmental Stewardship & Sustainability initiatives
  • Foster a culture of environmental responsibility across Hanwha Offshore Business Unit and subcontractor teams by promoting waste reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainable practices.
  • Collaborate across departments to embed environmental considerations into planning and execution.
  • Stay abreast of evolving environmental laws, technologies, and best practices, contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Coordination, Training & Systems Development
  • Coordinate with on-site environmental programs to ensure alignment and effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain a system to record and report Hanwha Ocean Operating Business Unit (OBU) environmental statistics.
  • Build a high-level ISO 14001-aligned environmental framework that bridges yard and corporate systems.
  • Establish standards and KPIs for office-based environmental indicators.
  • Prepare handover documentation for transition of environmental responsibilities to operational teams.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on environmental procedures and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in internal and external audits and inspections to assess compliance and improve performance.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental compliance, ideally in the offshore oil and gas or industrial sectors.
  • Knowledge of federal and international environmental laws (EPA, CWA, NPDES, MARPOL), and permitting frameworks
  • Experience with ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
  • Strong analytical skills for assessing environmental risks and interpreting complex data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of engaging diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring technologies, and data systems
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects under tight deadlines.
  • Strong team player with a commitment to health, safety, and environmental protection.
  • Certifications (Preferred) RCRA/DOT Hazardous Waste Management Certification
  • Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar credentials (Preferred).
