Position Overview
The Namibia Country Manager will be responsible for driving Hanwha Ocean’s business development activities in Namibia, with a strong focus on upstream Oil & Gas field projects (FPSO, FLNG, FSO, and related infrastructure). This role is centered on leveraging in-country networks, particularly with government agencies, NOCs, and IOCs, to build partnerships, identify opportunities, and support pre-sales and project execution efforts. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience from Namibia’s energy sector (government agencies or local oil & gas companies) and serve as Hanwha Ocean’s local representative to strengthen our footprint in Namibia.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Opportunity Management
- Identify, assess, and pursue business opportunities in Namibia’s Oil & Gas field developments, focusing on FPSO, FLNG, FSO, offshore modules and energy related infrastructure.
- Maintain a pipeline of opportunities and provide regular intelligence updates on upstream developments.
- Support client interface and early engagement activities, ensuring Hanwha Ocean is positioned for upcoming bids and tenders.
- Conduct market research to analyze competitor presence and provide actionable insights to headquarters.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Namibian government agencies (e.g., NAMCOR, Ministry of Mines & Energy, Ministry of Industry & Trade).
- Develop and expand networks with IOCs and NOCs (e.g., TotalEnergies, Shell, ExxonMobil, QatarEnergy, NAMCOR, Chevron) and Tier-1 contractors operating in Namibia.
- Represent Hanwha Ocean in industry events, conferences, and working groups to enhance visibility and credibility.
Local Content & Compliance
- Support the design and execution of Hanwha Ocean’s Local Content Strategy for Namibia.
- Identify and qualify local subcontractors, service providers, and suppliers aligned with project and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Namibian labor, tax, and environmental regulations.
- Provide guidance on local policy developments that could impact Hanwha Ocean’s business.
In-Country Setup & Operations Support
- Assist in establishing a legal entity/office in Namibia when required.
- Provide logistical and operational support for visiting executives, clients, and partners.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of local staff as operations expand.
Internal Coordination
- Act as the local liaison for headquarters, coordinating on proposals, clarifications, and due diligence.
- Provide input to proposal teams regarding local requirements, competitive pricing, and local partner engagement.
- Contribute to internal reporting on country risks, opportunities, and commercial progress.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, International Relations, or related field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in the energy sector, with at least 3 years in Namibia’s oil, gas, or related government institutions.
- Prior experience working with NAMCOR, Ministry of Mines & Energy, or international oil companies in Namibia is strongly preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of Namibia’s upstream oil & gas developments and regulatory environment.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain senior-level relationships in government and industry.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluent in English (French or Afrikaans is a plus).
Success Metrics (KPIs)
- Number of new business opportunities identified and pursued in Namibia’s oil & gas field.
- Strength and quality of relationships established with government and industry stakeholders.
- Contribution to successful bid submissions and project awards.
- Effective support for Local Content initiatives and compliance with local regulations.
- Establishment of a functional local office/entity (if required) within agreed timeframe.
