Position Overview:

 

The Lead Material Handling Engineer is a senior technical expert responsible for leading the project and providing advanced technical guidance for the Material Handling related engineering activities in the Topside facilities for FPSO/FLNG or Offshore facilities. 

This role involves developing innovating engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards, developing corporate technical standards/procedures/ standard specification/ Design Philosophy/Design Basis, workflow and keep them updated, integral, practical and fit to purpose with incorporating Project Lesson Learns.

The Lead Material Handling Engineer plays a crucial role in project execution, from initial design to final implementation, and acts as a key technical interface with clients and stakeholders. This role may require frequent travel to the US, Europe, and Asia.

The ideal candidate of the position will have a strong background in Offshore Oil & Gas Industry, be an expert in Topsides Material Handling Engineering, and provide strategic focus in the Topsides Material Handling Engineering for Conceptual/pre-FEED/FEED/EPC(I) projects of FPSO, FLNG or offshore facilities.

The strategic focus will also include providing support to Hanwha Ocean engineering teams based in USA/Netherland/Singapore and elsewhere as necessary including Conceptual, pre-FEED and FEED for projects in the offshore area in the future.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist Head of Discipline / Principal Engineer to manage corporate organization and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Provide advanced expertise in prescribing material handling procedures and schemes of all topside equipment (such as turbine generators, compressors, heat exchangers, pumps, etc.), packages (ECU, RO, etc.), manual and control valves, components etc.
  • Good knowledge to select relevant handling equipment (hoist, trolleys, etc.) during the conceptual design / proposal phase and conduct specific studies during the basic and detailed engineering phases.
  • Resolution of the issue related to material handling with various inter discipline, Vendors, Client, Class etc.
  • Prepare and review of Material Handling Philosophy/ Basis, Material Handling Report/ presentation, List of material handling equipment with specification, input related to material handling to all suppliers.
  • Review of various packages/ equipment offers and supplier’s drawing and assess handling aspects.
  • Lead and Conduct design reviews (Material Handling workshop) and participate in technical discussions (3D Model review, Vendor’s KOM etc.) to present handling details and provide expertise suggestion and propose the optimum, safe environmentally & competitive technical solution.
  • Answer general queries arising from clients, contractors or internal company departments on aspects related to material handling.
  • Manage interface with all relevant disciplines to get necessary information for engineering or to provide data to other disciplines for their engineering.
  • Interface with all stake holders and 3D designers to implement the handling requirements.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues during the fabrication, installation & commissioning phases.
  • Review and approve the work of less experienced team members to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot and solve technical problems encountered during project execution.
  • Ensure all documentation is complete and compliant with design code, standards, project requirements and quality management systems.
  • Provide engineering review and support for bid proposal including estimate of manhour and cost.
  • Raise Technical Queries towards the client’s project documents, Design basis to ensure all scopes of work and design basis are clarified.
  • incorporate and update Lessons Learnt Database

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years working experience with 7 years’ experience in Oil & Gas industries (FPSO contractor or Offshore/Onshore EPC contractor).
  • Minimum 1 FPSO / FLNG / Offshore FEED/EPCI Project experience.
