Position Overview:
Provide technical leadership in process safety, loss prevention, and fire protection engineering for topside facilities on FPSO/FLNG projects, ensuring designs meet safety, regulatory, client, project and operational excellence standards throughout the EPC lifecycle.
Support in developing corporate technical standards/procedures and keep them updated (incorporating Project Lesson Learns).
Assist HOD for managing a corporate organization and mentors Process safety Engineers.
Ensure technical validation and quality assurance
The strategic focus will also include providing support to Hanwha Ocean Global engineering teams based in USA/Netherland/Singapore and elsewhere as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the process safety and firefighting detailed engineering scope for Topside systems of FPSO/FLNG projects.
• Define scope, deliverables, and schedules for process safety engineering scope of work.
• Manage specialized process safety studies ( HAZID, HAZOP,SIL, LOPA etc) through 3rd Party (as applicable)
• Develop and review project safety philosophies and standards.
• Design and specify project active and passive fire protection systems: firewater system, foam systems, deluge systems, fireproofing, etc.
• Develop and review project safety deliverables:
Hazardous Area Classification Schedule and Layout;
Escape route, Fire fighting & safety equipment layout;
Safety sign layout;
Firewater/ Foam Deluge System - Nozzle coverage layout;
Firewater/Foam system demand calculation, hydraulic and surge analysis;
Fire fighting system UFDs, P&IDs and line list;
Fire fighting and safety equipment datasheets.
• Review other disciplines project deliverables
Process P&IDs
Cause & Effect (F&G, ESD, PSD)
Equipment Layout
Fire & Gas Detection layouts
• Coordinate and interface with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Ensure compliance with international standards and client-specific requirements (e.g., ABS, API, DNV, IEC, IMO, ISO, NFPA, etc.).
• Participate in design reviews, HAZID and HAZOP/SIL Classification, LOPA workshops, and ensure close-out of action items.
• Support procurement of safety and firefighting systems including technical bid evaluations and vendor document review.
• To guide and mentor junior engineers and review their work
• Promote best practices, lessons learned, and continuous improvement in process safety engineering workflows
Qualifications & Experience :
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Fire Safety, or related engineering discipline.
• 10–15 years of relevant experience, with at least 8 years in offshore topside safety/firefighting design for FPSO/FLNG projects.
• Proven EPC project track record from FEED to commissioning.
• Proficiency in Flaresim, PHAST, PIPENET (Spray/Sprinkler & Transient module), and familiarity with 3D model reviews.
• Strong knowledge of fire protection engineering principles, Code & Standards and process safety management.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem solving skills.
