Position Overview:

 

Lead Engineer position is responsible for leading and delivering all Civil/ Structure engineering activities for Power plant/Petrochemical/Oil & Gas Industry, covering Process units, Pipe Racks, Plant Buildings, Utility Structures, Equipment & Machine Foundations, Tank foundations, Pile foundations, Trench, Culverts, Pits & other associated facilities.

Lead Engineer develops corporate technical standards/ Procedures, workflow, engineering platform (e.g. Civil/ Structure design data integration) and keep them updated, integral, practical and fit to purpose with incorporating Project Lessons Learnt.

Lead Engineer assists Head of Discipline for managing a corporate organization and mentors Engineers in the Discipline.

Lead Engineer conducts Technical Validation and Quality Assurance (input/output data accuracy, technical appropriateness, consistency, practicality, codes, optimum solution and regulatory compliance) in executing Feasibility/ Conceptual Study/ Pre-FEED/ FEED, EPCI Engineering for Powerplant/Petrochemical/Oil & Gas Industry projects.

Lead Engineer will have a strong background in Power plant/Petrochemical/Oil & Gas Industry, be an expert in Civil/ Structure Engineering, and provide strategic focus in Civil/ Structure Engineering functions.

 

The strategic focus will also include providing support to Hanwha Ocean engineering teams based in Korea and elsewhere as necessary including Conceptual, pre-FEED and FEED for projects in the future.

 

This role may require frequent travel to the US, Europe, and Asia.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

General

- Develop Corporate Technical Standards, Procedures, Engineering Workflow and Engineering Platform for Civil/ Steel Structures.

- Assist Department Head of Discipline to manage corporate organization.

- Update and Maintain EPCI and O & M Phase Lesson Learnt database.

 

Proposal/Pre-award Phase

- Conduct Conceptual/ Feasibility study to propose the optimum & competitive technical solution.

- Ensure that civil/ structure units are optimized, efficient, safe, environmentally compliant, and engineering documents prepared in accordance with relevant design codes, standards, and client’s project specifications.

- Provide engineering expertise and support to form the optimum & competitive proposals, engineering review and support for bid proposal including estimate of manhours & cost.

 

Feasibility Study/Pre-FEED/FEED/EPCI Phase

- Become a focal point for Civil/ Structure Discipline in Project Team and Communicate with Clients.

- Raise Technical Queries towards the Client's project documents, Design basis to ensure all scope of works and design basis are clarified.

- Manage interface with all relevant disciplines to get necessary information for Civil/ Structure engineering or to provide data to other disciplines for their engineering.

- Manage Project Civil/ Structure team - Resource and schedule control.

- Mentor junior or less experienced engineers, promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.

- Attend project meetings internally and with clients, 3rd party, sub-contractor and generate MOM.

- Report Area of Concerns, Progress and Plan to Project management team.

- Ensure Compliance with Client/ Regulatory requirements, develop Project Design Philosophies, Standards, Procedure.

- Conduct feasibility studies, Pre-FEED, FEED, FEED Verification (Inception of EPCI Phase) and EPCI phase Engineering.

- Develop design calculations including local checks, studies and deliverables, Material Take-off (MTO), etc.

- Prepare design calculations, studies, and review other deliverables performed by team members.

- Review geotechnical investigation reports and apply design parameters accordingly.

- Manage Design Team for 3D modelling and 2D AutoCAD drawings.

- Participation in various Workshop (Material Handling Study, 3D Model Review, Constructability Study, etc.).

- Close out comment/punches/recommendation related to structure from HAZOP, Vendor HAZOP, HAZID, 3D Model, Constructability Review, etc.

- Review Vendor Documents.

- Review contract structure for 3rd party consultants - e.g. Connections FEA Analysis, etc. and manage work scope, review/ comment/ approval of 3rd Party’s output.

- Supervise sub-contractor for quality and project schedule, review of deliverables and validation of design.

- Implement Management of Change to ensure all design changes to be incorporated in As-built.

- Provide engineering expertise for decision making to resolve Civil/ Structure related issues.

- Provide engineering support for construction/ fabrication, commissioning, operation & maintenance team.

- Conduct Troubleshooting, provide optimum technical solution and engineering support in facility modification, revamp studies.

- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team with good execution skills, and strong attention to detail and accuracy.

 

Qualifications:

 

- Minimum bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering or Equivalent engineering.

- Minimum 15 years’ total experience with 10 years’ experience at Power Plant/ Petrochemical/ Oil & Gas Industry EPC/ EPCI contractor.

- Familiarity with modular construction concepts and heavy equipment foundations.

- Worked as Lead Engineer preferably in two Power Plant / Petrochemical/ Refinery projects.

- Well Versed with Civil/ Structure Engineering Tools such as Staad Pro, MAT3D and FE analysis software like Idea Statica, etc.

- Extensive knowledge of Structure engineering practices, principles, industry codes and standards (ACI, AASHTO, ASTM, AISC, Eurocode, etc.) - as well as an understanding of scientific methods of problem-solving.

- Understanding of geotechnical engineering concepts and soil-structure interaction.

- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

- Effective communicator, fluent in English, able to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams & offices, clients, vendors, and global stakeholders.

- Proficient in planning, scheduling, resource management, and supervision of engineering and design tasks, with strong execution, accuracy, and attention to detail.

- Proactive in adopting modern industry practices and advanced software tools, with cost awareness, schedule sensitivity, and a value‑engineering mindset, suited to fast‑paced project environments.
