Position Overview:
The Lead Piping Layout Engineer leads and controls Piping engineering activities and act as a senior technical expert responsible for leading the project and providing advanced technical guidance for the optimum layout and piping related engineering activities mainly in the Topside facilities for FPSO/FLNG or Offshore facilities.
Lead Piping Engineer assists Head of Discipline for managing a corporate organization and mentors junior Engineers.
Lead Piping Engineer develops corporate technical standards/procedures, workflow, engineering platform (e.g. Piping design data integration) and keep them updated, integral, practical and fit to purpose with incorporating Project Lesson Learnt.
Lead Piping Engineer conducts technical validation and quality assurance (input/output data accuracy, technical appropriateness, consistency, practicality, code, optimum solution and regulatory compliance), provides technical advice or takes a lead as Project Discipline Lead - Topside Piping in executing Feasibility /Conceptual Study/Pre-FEED/FEED, EPCI Engineering for FPSO/FLNG or Offshore facilities projects.
This role may require frequent travel to the US, Europe, and Asia.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Offshore Oil & Gas Industry.
The strategic focus will also include providing support to Hanwha Ocean engineering teams based in USA/Singapore/India and elsewhere as necessary including Conceptual, pre-FEED and FEED for projects in the offshore area in the future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Focal point for Topside Piping discipline in Project Team and Communicate with Clients.
- Update and Maintain EPCI and O&M Phase Lesson Learnt database.
- Ensure all engineering documents are prepared and developed in accordance with relevant design code, standard, client’s project specification and quality management system.
- Ensure Compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide engineering expertise and support to form the optimum and competitive efficient, safe and environmentally compliant for Piping and utility system.
- Attend project meetings internally and externally (with clients, third party, sub-contractor) and generate MOM.
- Manage interface with all relevant disciplines to get necessary information for Piping engineering or to provide data to other disciplines for their engineering.
- Report Area of Concerns, Progress and Plan to Head of Discipline.
- Prepare project schedules and progress reports to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Develop Project Design Philosophies, Standards, Procedure and equipment layout.
- Develop and maintain isometric Index, Pipe support index, closeout report of the model review, and Punch list & Hold list.
- Provide input for weight control report in timely manner.
- Co-ordinate with modeling team to implement Catalogue & Spec as per requirements.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and progress tracking.
- Assist in resolving technical issues during the fabrication, installation & commissioning phases.
- Develop Piping calculations, studies and deliverables (Layout, Pipe Routing, etc.)
- Knowledge of material handling studies, safety layout, safety equipment, human ergonomics in design, process requirement in piping design.
- Ensure proper detailing of Pipe supports in 3D & 2D and interface with Structural and other items to provide clash free model.
- Participation in Various design review Workshop (Material Handling, Model Review, Constructability Study), risk assessments, and technical discussions to ensure robust engineering solutions. Answer general queries arising from clients, contractors or internal company departments on aspects related to Layout.
- Close out comment/punches/recommendation from HAZOP, Vendor HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, 3D Model, Constructability Review etc.
- Review Vendor Documents, Engineering Deliverables such as P&ID, Piping Data Sheet, Layout, Pipe Routing etc. and ensure full compliance with contract requirements and meet with company/client specifications.
- Review and approve the work of less experienced team members to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Maintain accurate records of design changes, decisions, and project milestones.
- Conduct feasibility studies, Pre-FEED, FEED, FEED Verification (Inception of EPCI Phase) and EPCI phase Engineering.
- Provide engineering review and support for bid proposal including estimate of manhour and cost.
- Raise Technical Queries towards the client’s project documents, Design basis to ensure all scopes of work and design basis are clarified.
- Provide engineering support for construction, commissioning and operation team.
- Ensure as-built Piping deliverables.
- Working experience in Engineering Software – AutoCAD, 3D software like AVEVA E3D.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 15 years working experience with 7 years’ experience in Oil & Gas industries (FPSO contractor or Offshore/Onshore EPC contractor)
- Minimum 1 FPSO / FLNG / Offshore FEED/EPCI Project experience
- Leadership skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Fluent in English, with strong oral and written communication skills
