Position Overview
The Lead Mechanical Engineer- Static is responsible for leading mechanical engineering and design activities for offshore projects, with particular focus on FPSO, FLNG, offshore facilities, and related topsides mechanical systems. This role provides technical leadership across conceptual, pre-FEED, FEED, EPCI, detailed engineering, construction support, commissioning support, and as-built closeout phases.
The position manages and supervises detailed engineering contractors and coordinates with multidisciplinary project teams, vendors, clients, and internal stakeholders to ensure mechanical deliverables are technically sound, compliant with applicable codes and project requirements, and delivered on schedule. The Lead Mechanical Engineer also supports design decision-making, vendor document review, technical issue resolution, and quality assurance for mechanical packages and static equipment.
This role requires strong offshore oil and gas engineering experience, practical knowledge of mechanical design tools and industry standards, and the ability to lead engineering execution in a complex, project-based environment.
Key Responsibility
- Develop mechanical engineering strategies, design philosophies, standards, procedures, and execution plans for offshore projects.
- Lead, manage, and supervise detailed engineering deliverables for topsides, modules, packages, and static equipment.
- Coordinate interfaces with piping, layout, process, structural, electrical, instrumentation, construction, commissioning, procurement, vendors, and project management teams.
- Review and validate vendor and subcontractor deliverables, including datasheets, specifications, P&IDs, general arrangements, 3D model inputs, weight data, equipment documentation, and technical calculations.
- Monitor engineering progress, resource plans, schedules, technical issues, and areas of concern, and report status to engineering and project management leadership.
- Ensure mechanical design compliance with project specifications, regulatory requirements, industry codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Support feasibility studies, pre-FEED, FEED, FEED verification, EPCI detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, operations support, and as-built documentation.
- Lead technical reviews, resolve mechanical engineering issues, and provide design expertise for project decision-making and management of change.
- Ensure the technical quality, consistency, and completeness of mechanical engineering deliverables before formal issue and project handover.
Qualification
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 10~15 years of mechanical engineering experience in offshore oil and gas for FPSO, FLNG, FEED, EPC, EPCI, or energy plant projects.
- Strong hands-on experience with mechanical package or static equipment engineering, vendor coordination, vendor document review, and detailed engineering execution.
- Well experienced in mechanical engineering tools such as PVElite, Compress or equivalent design and analysis software.
- Experience leading mechanical engineering scope within multidisciplinary project teams and supervising engineering contractors or subcontractors.
- Solid knowledge of mechanical engineering practices, industry codes, project specifications, equipment design requirements, and engineering quality control.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, resolve technical issues, and communicate effectively with internal teams, vendors, clients, and project stakeholders.
- Strong English communication skills for technical coordination, reporting, and documentation.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on onshore plant projects, petrochemicals, refineries.
- Experience across construction support, commissioning support, and as-built closeout phases.
- Familiarity with mechanical engineering tools such as HTRI or equivalent design and analysis software.
- Experience in field engineering, construction, commissioning, or operations support is an advantage.
- Demonstrated leadership in project-based, matrix, and multicultural engineering environments.
