Position Overview

The Lead HVAC Engineer provides technical leadership, governance, and discipline authority for all HVAC engineering activities across FPSO, offshore, marine, power generation, renewable energy, industrial, and EPC projects. The role is accountable for ensuring HVAC engineering quality, technical assurance, regulatory compliance, operability, maintainability, constructability, and execution readiness throughout all project phases, from concept development and FEED through detailed engineering, procurement, construction support, commissioning, startup, and operational handover.

As the senior technical focal point for HVAC engineering, the position provides leadership and guidance to discipline engineers, project teams, contractors, vendors, clients, and external stakeholders. The HVAC Discipline Lead 1 is responsible for establishing and governing engineering standards, design methodologies, technical procedures, and best practices, while ensuring alignment with project objectives, client specifications, classification society requirements, applicable international codes and standards, and corporate engineering policies. The role also provides oversight of engineering deliverables, technical decision-making, risk management, engineering assurance activities, and multidisciplinary integration throughout project execution.

This position requires extensive HVAC engineering experience within offshore and EPC environments, strong technical leadership capability, and the ability to effectively coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines and project stakeholders. Success in the role requires balancing technical integrity, safety, operability, maintainability, constructability, energy efficiency, schedule, cost, and project delivery objectives while supporting innovation, continuous improvement, and the successful execution and long-term performance of complex assets and facilities.

Key Responsibility

  • Act as the technical authority for HVAC engineering activities across FPSO, offshore, marine, industrial, power generation, renewable energy, and EPC projects from concept development through commissioning and operational handover.

  • Lead development, review, and approval of HVAC engineering deliverables including design basis documents, calculations, specifications, equipment selections, system studies, layouts, technical evaluations, and engineering reports.

  • Establish and govern HVAC engineering standards, design methodologies, technical procedures, quality requirements, and best practices across projects.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable international codes, regulatory requirements, client specifications, classification society requirements, energy efficiency standards, and corporate engineering policies.

  • Provide leadership in HVAC load calculations, ventilation studies, equipment sizing, air distribution systems, pressurization systems, cooling and heating systems, and hazardous area HVAC design.

  • Lead multidisciplinary coordination activities with process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, safety, marine, structural, and project execution disciplines to ensure integrated engineering solutions.

  • Review and approve vendor documents, technical bid evaluations, equipment packages, technical deviations, and contractor engineering submissions.

  • Lead design reviews, constructability assessments, operability studies, technical risk evaluations, engineering assurance activities, and lessons learned implementation.

  • Support project execution by resolving complex technical issues, evaluating engineering alternatives, assessing impacts, and providing recommendations for key technical decisions.

  • Participate in client meetings, technical audits, engineering reviews, regulatory discussions, and class approval activities related to HVAC engineering matters.

  • Support construction, commissioning, startup, testing, troubleshooting, and operational readiness activities to ensure successful project execution.

  • Identify engineering risks, develop mitigation plans, manage technical issues, and support project teams in design change management activities.

  • Mentor HVAC engineers and discipline leads while supporting capability development, succession planning, knowledge management, and engineering excellence initiatives.

  • Drive innovation, digital engineering adoption, standardization, continuous improvement, and energy-efficient engineering practices across the HVAC discipline.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline; master's degree, professional engineer qualification, or equivalent senior technical credential preferred.

  • Typically 15+ years of HVAC engineering experience in EPC, offshore, marine, power generation, renewable energy, industrial, or large capital project environments, including significant leadership experience across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

  • Proven track record leading FPSO HVAC engineering scope throughout project lifecycles including concept development, FEED, detailed engineering, construction support, commissioning, startup, and operational handover for FPSO projects.

  • Strong understanding of FPSO HVAC design principles, load calculations, ventilation systems, cooling and heating systems, air distribution systems, hazardous area requirements, indoor environmental control, and energy efficiency practices.

  • Extensive experience managing interfaces with engineering disciplines, project management, procurement, construction teams, vendors, contractors, clients, classification societies, and regulatory authorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to govern complex technical decisions involving system selection, equipment sizing, energy performance, safety requirements, constructability, operability, and lifecycle optimization.

  • Strong knowledge of applicable HVAC codes, standards, regulatory requirements, engineering specifications, quality assurance processes, and technical review practices.

  • Experience performing technical risk assessments, design reviews, technical assurance activities, engineering governance responsibilities, and troubleshooting of complex HVAC systems.

  • Ability to mentor engineers, develop discipline capability, support succession planning, and implement continuous improvement and engineering excellence initiatives.

  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance technical integrity, schedule, cost, safety, operability, maintainability, and project objectives.

  • Fluent English communication, technical presentation, stakeholder management, negotiation, and multidisciplinary coordination skills required.
