Position Overview

The Lead Piping Material Engineer leads and governs piping material class development, PMS/VMS governance, valve and specialty item selection, material specification compliance, corrosion/material compatibility, and requisition technical inputs for FPSO, FLNG, fixed platform, offshore renewable, onshore power, petrochemical, LNG, hydrogen/ammonia, CCS, and other complex plant projects. This role contributes to safe, constructible, compliant, and cost-effective project delivery by defining technical requirements, verifying calculations/specifications, resolving technical queries, and safeguarding design integrity.

The position works in a multidisciplinary FEED/EPCI environment with engineering, procurement, vendors, fabrication yards, construction, commissioning, and project management teams. The role manages discipline scope, model/deliverable schedule, resource priorities, client and subcontractor interfaces, review close-out, and progress/risk reporting for assigned project areas.

The position supports model-based delivery, piping integrity, constructability, and field readiness by coordinating layout, materials, site interfaces, 3D model quality, drawing extraction, and issue resolution across engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning phases. It is expected to maintain strong interface control with process, mechanical, structure, E&I, vendor, and site teams to secure timely and practical outcomes.

Key Responsibility

  • Lead and coordinate piping material class development, PMS/VMS governance, valve and specialty item selection, material specification compliance, corrosion/material compatibility, and requisition technical inputs in accordance with project specifications, client requirements, class/regulatory expectations, international codes, and company standards.
  • Prepare, update, check, or coordinate piping classes, PMS/VMS inputs, valve and specialty item datasheets, material requisition inputs, technical bid comments, vendor document reviews, and material deviation assessments, ensuring accuracy, revision traceability, constructability, and timely issue for project milestones.
  • Define or verify technical requirements, calculations, design basis assumptions, specifications, technical requisitions, vendor document comments, and technical query responses within the assigned discipline.
  • Coordinate interfaces with process, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, structural, safety, procurement, construction, commissioning, vendors, subcontractors, and fabrication yards to close interdisciplinary issues.
  • Support 30% / 60% / 90% design reviews, model reviews, layout reviews, constructability reviews, HAZOP/HAZID inputs where relevant, and client/vendor comment close-out.
  • Identify constructability concerns, interface gaps, material or vendor data risks, schedule impacts, and management-of-change items; communicate mitigation actions clearly.
  • Maintain engineering records, drawing/model data, review comments, calculations or registers, and as-built information in accordance with document control and quality procedures.
  • Manage assigned scope, manpower priorities, deliverable schedule, subcontractor interfaces, progress reporting, and recovery actions for late or high-risk deliverables.

Qualification

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Piping, Marine/Offshore, Electrical, Chemical/Process, or a related engineering discipline. Preferred: Master’s degree or advanced discipline training.
