Position Overview:

 

The Lead Process Engineer is responsible for leading and managing process engineering activities primarily for topside facilities in FPSO, FLNG, or other offshore projects. This role involves developing corporate technical standards, procedures, workflows, and engineering platforms (e.g., process design data integration) and ensuring they remain updated, practical, and fit-for-purpose while incorporating lessons learned from projects.

 

The Lead Process Engineer supports the Head of Discipline in managing the corporate organization and mentors process engineers within the team. The role includes technical validation and quality assurance of engineering data and deliverables, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and optimal solutions. The Lead Process Engineer also acts as Project Discipline Lead – Topside Process for feasibility, conceptual, pre-FEED, FEED, and EPCI engineering phases.

 

The position requires the ability to analyze and identify optimal solutions, prepare technical reports, and communicate findings effectively. Travel to the US, Europe, and Asia may be required. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the offshore oil and gas industry, be an expert in topside process engineering, and provide strategic guidance for conceptual, pre-FEED, FEED, and EPC(I) projects. Strategic responsibilities also include supporting Hanwha Ocean engineering teams in Houston, Seoul, Amsterdam, Singapore, and other locations for upcoming offshore projects.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Corporate and General

    • Develop corporate technical standards and procedures for topside process engineering.
    • Develop workflows and engineering platforms for topside process design.
    • Support the Head of Discipline in managing the corporate organization.
    • Update and maintain the EPCI and O&M phase lessons learned database.

 

Proposal and Pre-Award Phase

    • Conduct conceptual and feasibility studies to propose optimum and competitive technical solutions.
    • Ensure engineering documents are prepared in compliance with design codes, standards, and client specifications.
    • Provide engineering expertise and support to develop competitive proposals.
    • Ensure process and utility systems are optimized, efficient, safe, and environmentally compliant.
    • Review bid proposals and provide input for manhour and cost estimates.

 

Feasibility Study / Pre-FEED / FEED / EPCI Phase

    • Serve as Project Discipline Lead for assigned projects.
    • Act as focal point for topside process discipline within the project team and liaise with clients.
    • Raise technical queries on client project documents and design basis to ensure scope clarity.
    • Coordinate with other disciplines to provide and receive required engineering data.
    • Manage the topside process engineering team, including manning and schedule control.
    • Mentor junior and less experienced engineers.
    • Attend internal and external project meetings (with clients, third parties, subcontractors) and prepare minutes of meeting.
    • Report concerns, progress, and plans to project management and the Corporate Head of Discipline.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Develop project design philosophies, standards, and procedures.
    • Conduct feasibility studies, pre-FEED, FEED, FEED verification, and EPCI phase engineering.
    • Develop PFDs, process simulations, and review results, including heat and material balances (HYSYS or equivalent).
    • Perform process calculations, studies, and deliverables such as utility consumption, hydraulic calculations, line and vessel sizing, process datasheets, blowdown studies, P&IDs, safe charts, cause and effect diagrams, and control narratives.
    • Participate in workshops including RAM studies, HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, 3D model reviews, and technical safety study assumption reviews.
    • Provide input data for RAM and technical safety studies (FRA, ERA, QRA) and review study reports.
    • Close out comments and recommendations from HAZOP, vendor HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, and design reviews.
    • Review vendor process deliverables (P&IDs, datasheets, performance curves).
    • Manage third-party consultants for specialized analyses (e.g., dynamic simulation, HTRI, surge analysis) including scope definition, requisition, contract, and technical evaluation.
    • Review, comment, and approve third-party deliverables.
    • Supervise subcontractors to ensure quality of design, deliverables, and schedule compliance.
    • Implement Management of Change to ensure design updates are reflected in as-built documentation.
    • Provide engineering support for construction, commissioning, and operations teams.
    • Provide technical expertise for resolving process-related issues.
    • Ensure accurate as-built process deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, cause and effect diagrams, and datasheets.

 

Operation and Maintenance Phase

    • Support operations and maintenance teams.
    • Conduct troubleshooting and propose optimum technical solutions.
    • Perform studies for facility modifications and revamps.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in petroleum or chemical engineering
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in the offshore or onshore oil and gas industry
  • Minimum consecutive 7 years’ experience at top-tier FPSO contractor or Offshore/Onshore EPC contractor (minimum 7 years working experience in the same contractor)
  • Minimum 1 FPSO EPCI Project experience from the beginning of project (engineering) until the sail-away to site or delivery of FPSO
  • Minimum 1 FPSO FEED/EPCI Project experience as a Project Lead - Topside Process including Topsides Process Conceptual / Feasibility Studies
  • Hands-on process engineering experience in FPSO or Offshore EPCI projects, especially process simulation (steady state, dynamic), HB/MB, utility consumption, blowdown/flarenet studies, hydraulic calculation, line sizing, equipment sizing, control narrative, HAZOP or Technical Safety Action Close-out etc.
  • Hands-on Field Engineering in Construction phase or Onshore/Offshore commissioning experience is value-added.
  • The experience or familiarity with Zero carbon emission, CCUS technology etc. is value-added.
  • Versed with Process Engineering Tool such as Aspen HYSYS, Flarenet, Pipe-net or equivalent and ability to interpret result of process simulation
  • Extensive knowledge of process engineering practices, principles, industry codes and standards - as well as an understanding of scientific methods of problem-solving.
  • Very strong leadership skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
