Position Overview

The Lead Telecommunications Designer is responsible for leading the design and drafting activities for telecommunications systems associated with FPSO, FLNG and offshore facility projects throughout Concept, FEED and EPCI phases. The role ensures telecommunications equipment layouts, cable routing, installation details and design deliverables are developed in accordance with Company, Client, Class and international standards while supporting safe, practical and cost-effective construction.

 

The Lead Telecommunications Designer coordinates design activities within the telecommunications discipline and interfaces with Engineering, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, HVAC, Marine and Hull disciplines to ensure an integrated and constructible design. The role also provides technical guidance and mentoring to designers and CAD personnel while supporting procurement, construction and commissioning activities.

Telecommunications Engineering includes all communication, navigation, safety, security and information systems associated with FPSO, FLNG and offshore facilities.

Key Responsibility

Design Leadership
•    Lead telecommunications design and drafting activities for FPSO, FLNG and offshore facility projects. 
•    Coordinate telecommunications design deliverables to meet project schedule, quality and client requirements. 
•    Allocate and supervise design activities performed by designers and CAD personnel. 
•    Ensure consistency and quality of telecommunications drawings and design documentation. 
Design Development
•    Develop and review telecommunications equipment layouts, cable routing drawings, installation details, block diagrams and detailed design drawings. 
•    Coordinate equipment location and cable routing with Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Marine, Hull and HVAC disciplines. 
•    Ensure telecommunications equipment is arranged for safe installation, operation, inspection and maintenance throughout the facility life cycle. 
•    Participate in 3D model development and interdisciplinary model reviews. 
•    Resolve design clashes and support constructability improvements. 
•    Support development of standard installation details and corporate design standards. 
Engineering Support
•    Support Telecommunications Engineers during development of design deliverables. 
•    Review vendor drawings and ensure vendor equipment is correctly incorporated into the overall facility design. 
•    Ensure compliance with Company, Client, Class, Flag State and applicable international codes and standards. 
Construction & Commissioning Support
•    Provide design support during fabrication, construction, mechanical completion, commissioning, sail-away, offshore installation and final handover. 
•    Resolve design-related technical queries and update drawings where required. 
•    Ensure all design changes are incorporated into final As-Built documentation. 
Continuous Improvement
•    Support continuous improvement of telecommunications drafting standards, design procedures and workflows. 
•    Contribute to lessons learned and implementation of best engineering practices. 
•    Mentor and develop junior designers and CAD personnel.

Qualification

 
•    Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or related Engineering discipline. 
•    Minimum 10 years of telecommunications design experience in the offshore oil & gas industry. 
•    Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with a leading FPSO, FLNG or Offshore EPC contractor. 
•    Extensive experience in telecommunications equipment layout, cable routing and detailed installation design. 
•    Proficiency in AutoCAD, Smart 3D (S3D), E3D, MicroStation or equivalent 3D design software. 
•    Good understanding of offshore telecommunications systems and associated engineering practices. 
•    Familiarity with Company, Client, Class, Flag State and international codes and standards. 
•    Experience supporting construction and commissioning activities is desirable. 
•    Strong coordination, communication and leadership skills. 
•    Fluent in written and spoken English.
