Position Overview
The Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Layout Designer is responsible for developing and coordinating E&I layout design deliverables for plant projects. This role focuses on producing accurate and constructible layouts, supporting model development, and ensuring interdisciplinary coordination. The position contributes to efficient engineering execution by delivering high-quality design outputs aligned with project requirements.
The role supports reliable power, control, automation, and instrumentation solutions by coordinating design requirements, technical studies, system interfaces, and execution priorities across concept, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement support, and commissioning readiness. It is expected to maintain compliance with project standards and industry codes while ensuring that electrical and control system deliverables are integrated, safe, and operationally robust.
At this level, the role independently manages complex work packages, reviews deliverables, supports problem solving, and provides practical guidance to junior team members. The position is expected to bring stronger judgment on technical and execution matters, strengthen coordination efficiency, and improve delivery quality through hands-on project experience.
Key Responsibility
- Develop and coordinate ICSS design deliverables, including control room layouts, equipment arrangements, cable routing, junction box layouts, and installation details for FPSO projects.
- Ensure 2D and 3D designs are constructible, maintainable, and compliant with project specifications, offshore standards, and operational requirements.
- Lead multidisciplinary model reviews and coordinate interfaces between ICSS, Electrical, Process, Mechanical, Piping, Marine, and Telecom disciplines.
- Review and verify design deliverables for technical accuracy, compliance, quality, clash-free integration, and adherence to FPSO design standards.
- Integrate vendor package information into design models and drawings, ensuring consistency with project requirements and execution schedules.
- Support engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up activities through timely design updates and technical clarifications.
- Identify and resolve design, interface, and constructability issues early to minimize rework and improve project execution efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance to junior designers and support continuous improvement of design practices, modelling standards, and deliverable quality.
Qualification
- Proven experience in ICSS, Instrumentation, and Layout Design for FPSO, offshore, or oil & gas facilities, including design development through detailed engineering.
- Strong proficiency in 2D and 3D design platforms such as AutoCAD, SmartPlant 3D (SP3D), E3D, PDMS, or equivalent engineering design tools.
- Demonstrated ability to independently develop complex design deliverables while coordinating effectively with multidisciplinary engineering, vendor, and project teams.
- Solid understanding of FPSO design practices, offshore installation requirements, constructability principles, and operational accessibility considerations.
- Good knowledge of applicable industry standards, client specifications, classification society requirements, and international codes related to ICSS and instrumentation systems.
- Experience supporting 3D model reviews, clash detection, design verification, and layout optimization to ensure safe and efficient equipment integration.
- Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Familiarity with engineering deliverables including instrument layouts, cable tray routing, junction box layouts, control room arrangements, and installation drawings for offshore facilities.
