Position Overview

Senior Materials and Corrosion Engineer conducts materials and corrosion engineering activities under Principal or Lead Engineer supervision for FPSO/FLNG or Offshore facilities.

Under Principal or Lead Engineer's supervision, Senior Materials & Corrosion Engineer conducts Feasibility / Conceptual Study / Pre-FEED/FEED, EPCI Engineering for FPSO/FLNG or Offshore facilities projects.

The ideal candidate for the position will be required to have a strong background in Offshore Oil & Gas Industry, be of requisite knowledge in Materials and Corrosion Engineering, and provide specific technical expertise in Materials and Corrosion Engineering capacity for Conceptual/pre-FEED/FEED/EPC(I) projects in relation to FPSO, FLNG or offshore facilities.

The candidate will also be required to provide support to Hanwha Ocean engineering teams based in Okpo/Seoul/Noida/Houston and elsewhere as necessary including Conceptual, pre-FEED and FEED for projects in the offshore area in the future. Candidates can also look forward to frequent work trips overseas for material work inspection and assignments, depending on Client needs.

Key Responsibility

  • Update Corporate Technical Standards and Procedures for Materials and Corrosion Engineering (e.g. Material Selection Philosophy, Sour Service Requirement Specification, Surface Preparation and Coating Specification, Colour Coding Specification, Sacrificial Anode Specification, ICCP Specification etc.).
  • Discipline Execution Plan for specific projects.
  • Update and maintain EPCI and O&M phases lessons learnt database.
  • Perform Conceptual/Feasibility Study to propose the optimum & competitive material selection recommendations based on corrosion concerns investigated.
  • Ensure all engineering documents are prepared and developed in accordance with relevant design code, standard and client project documentation requirements.
  • Provide materials and corrosion engineering expertise and support to form up optimum and competitive proposals.
  • Ensure material selection and specifications are optimized and fit for purpose, internal and external environment and design life.
  • Provide engineering review and support for bid proposals from Vendors / Suppliers for mechanical and piping disciplines including estimate of manhour and cost.
  • Manage interface with all relevant disciplines to get necessary information for materials and corrosion engineering or to provide data to other disciplines for their engineering follow-up.
  • Develop Project Design Philosophies, Standards, Procedure - e.g. Material Selection Philosophy, Sour Service Requirement Specification, Surface Preparation and Coating Specification, Colour Coding Specification, Sacrificial Anode Specification, ICCP Specification etc. to fit to each project.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, Pre-FEED, FEED, FEED Verification (Inception of EPCI Phase) and EPCI Phase Engineering (Detailed Engineering).
  • Perform Corrosion simulation (ECE-5) and Erosion simulation (DNV-RP-O-501) ensuring a thorough review of the result for adequacy of material selection.
  • Develop Material Selection Report and Material Selection Diagrams for various units and facilities for topsides and hull systems.

Qualification

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree or Master’s Degree in Materials, Corrosion, Metallurgical and/or Mechanical Engineering (with Materials Science) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 12 years’ experience in the offshore or onshore oil and gas industry.
  • Minimum consecutive 2-3 years’ experience at a top-tier FPSO contractor or Offshore/Onshore EPC contractor or consultant (minimum 10 years working experience in the same contractor/consultant).
  • Minimum 1 FPSO FEED/EPCI Project experience
  • Hands-on experience of producing project material selection philosophy, material selection report and Material Selection Diagram in FPSO or Offshore EPCI projects.
  • Hands-on experience of developing Risk Based Inspection System for offshore facilities is value-added.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and material selection assessment in offshore facilities is value-added.
  • Extensive knowledge of materials and corrosion engineering practices, principles, industry codes and standards, and commercial awareness - as well as an understanding of scientific methods of problem-solving.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work with and to communicate effectively with co-workers, vendors, clients and manage multiple priorities.
  • Fluent in English, with strong oral and written communication skills.
