Position Overview:
The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for conducting process engineering activities for topside facilities in FPSO, FLNG, and offshore projects under the supervision of the Principal or Lead Process Engineer. This includes contributing to the development of corporate technical standards, procedures, workflows, and engineering platforms (e.g., process design data integration), ensuring they remain updated, practical, and aligned with lessons learned.
The Senior Process Engineer participates in feasibility, conceptual, pre-FEED, FEED, and EPCI engineering phases and supports the Head of Discipline and senior engineers in corporate initiatives. The position requires strong analytical skills to identify optimal solutions, prepare technical reports, and communicate findings effectively. Travel to the US, Europe, and Asia may be required.
The ideal candidate will have extensive offshore oil and gas experience, expertise in topsides process engineering, and the ability to contribute strategically to conceptual, pre-FEED, FEED, and EPC(I) projects. The role also supports Hanwha Ocean engineering teams in Houston, Seoul, Amsterdam, Singapore, and other locations as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Corporate and General

Support the development of corporate technical standards and procedures for topside process engineering.

Assist in developing workflows and engineering platforms for process design.

Contribute to updating and maintaining the EPCI and O&M phase lessons learned database.
Proposal and Pre-Award Phase
-
Conduct conceptual and feasibility studies to propose optimum and competitive technical solutions.

Ensure engineering documents comply with relevant codes, standards, and client specifications.
-
Provide process engineering expertise in preparing competitive proposals.
-
Ensure process and utility systems are optimized, efficient, safe, and environmentally compliant.

Assist in reviewing proposals and provide input for manhour and cost estimates.
Feasibility Study / Pre-FEED / FEED / EPCI Phase

Support project teams in delivering process engineering activities across all phases.

Act as focal point for process engineering within the project team and liaise with clients when delegated.

Raise technical queries on client project documents and design basis to ensure scope clarity.

Coordinate with other disciplines to exchange required engineering data.

Mentor junior engineers and provide support to less experienced team members.

Attend project meetings (internal and external) and prepare minutes.

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Assist in developing project design philosophies, standards, and procedures.

Prepare PFDs, simulations, and calculations (heat and material balances, utility consumption, hydraulics, line and vessel sizing, datasheets, blowdown studies, P&IDs, safe charts, cause and effect diagrams, control narratives).

Participate in workshops including RAM, HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, 3D model reviews, and technical safety studies.

Provide input data for RAM and safety studies (FRA, ERA, QRA) and review study reports.

Close out comments from design reviews, HAZOPs, and vendor feedback.

Review vendor process deliverables (P&IDs, datasheets, performance curves).

Support contracting and supervision of third-party consultants (dynamic simulations, HTRI, surge analysis) and review/approve their deliverables.

Supervise subcontractors to ensure quality of design, deliverables, and schedule compliance.

Implement Management of Change processes to ensure updates are reflected in as-built documentation.

Provide engineering support to construction, commissioning, and operations teams.

Contribute to resolving process-related technical issues.
Operation and Maintenance Phase

Support operations and maintenance teams with process engineering expertise.

Conduct troubleshooting and propose optimum technical solutions.

Perform engineering studies for facility modifications, upgrades, and revamps.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in petroleum, chemical, or related engineering discipline.
-
Minimum 10 years of experience in the offshore or onshore oil and gas industry.
-
At least 5 consecutive years with a top-tier FPSO or offshore/onshore EPC contractor.

Minimum 1 FPSO FEED or EPCI project as a topside process engineer, including conceptual and feasibility studies.

Proven process engineering experience in FPSO or offshore/onshore EPCI projects, including process simulation (steady state and dynamic), heat and material balances, utility consumption, blowdown and flare studies, hydraulic calculations, line and equipment sizing, control narratives, and HAZOP close-out.

Field engineering experience during construction or commissioning is an advantage.

Familiarity with zero-carbon emission technologies and CCUS is an advantage.

Proficiency with process engineering tools such as Aspen HYSYS, FlareNet, PipeNet or equivalent, with ability to interpret simulation results.

Extensive knowledge of process engineering practices, industry codes, and standards, with strong problem-solving methodology.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.

Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken, with ability to work effectively with co-workers, vendors, and clients.
