Position Overview

The Topsides Process Lead Designer is responsible for leading and coordinating the development of process design deliverables for FPSO, FLNG, fixed offshore platforms, and other complex industrial projects. The role supports safe, operable, maintainable, and cost-effective facility design by translating process engineering requirements into coordinated design deliverables, layouts, diagrams, and multidisciplinary design solutions.

The position works within a multidisciplinary FEED, EPC, and EPCI environment, interfacing with process, piping, mechanical, instrumentation, electrical, structural, safety, procurement, construction, commissioning, vendors, and project management teams. The role is responsible for coordinating process design activities, managing assigned scope and resources, ensuring quality and schedule compliance, and maintaining alignment between process requirements and overall facility design.

The position supports the development of safe and efficient topsides facilities through the integration of process engineering requirements with equipment arrangement, piping layouts, operability, maintainability, constructability, and commissioning considerations across concept, FEED, detailed engineering, and execution phases.

At this level, the role provides leadership for assigned design scopes, coordinates multidisciplinary interfaces, reviews deliverables, mentors designers, and ensures that work is executed in accordance with project requirements, technical standards, quality expectations, and delivery schedules.

Key Responsibility

  • Prepare, review, and coordinate process design deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, line lists, process layouts, design drawings, plot plans, equipment arrangement drawings, and discipline interface documents
  • Translate process engineering inputs, datasheets, design calculations, simulations, vendor information, and review comments into coordinated design deliverables and layout solutions
  • Ensure consistency between process design documents, 3D models, equipment layouts, piping designs, and engineering databases
  • Coordinate interfaces with process, mechanical, piping, instrumentation, electrical, structural, safety, procurement, construction, commissioning, vendors, subcontractors, and fabrication yards to resolve design and interface issues.
  • Support design reviews, model reviews, layout reviews, constructability reviews, HAZOP/HAZID workshops, and multidisciplinary technical reviews as required
  • Identify design clashes, constructability concerns, operability issues, safety risks, and schedule impacts, and coordinate resolution with relevant stakeholders
  • Review vendor drawings and package information to ensure compliance with process requirements and integration with overall facility design
  • Maintain engineering records, design databases, drawing registers, review comments, and as-built documentation in accordance with project quality and document control requirements
  • Manage assigned scope, resource priorities, deliverable schedules, subcontractor activities, progress reporting, and recovery plans for critical or high-risk deliverables
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior designers and support continuous improvement initiatives within the discipline
  • Support construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and handover activities by addressing design queries and ensuring design intent is maintained during execution

Qualification

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in topsides process design for FPSO, FLNG, offshore oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, or energy projects
  • Proven experience in FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC/EPCI project execution, construction support, and commissioning
  • Strong knowledge of process design deliverables, topsides facilities layout development, and multidisciplinary design coordination
  • Experience with intelligent P&ID systems, 3D design environments, engineering databases, and document management systems
